Another big awards show could be on its way to a streaming platform.

The Television Academy and Prime Video are in talks about the Amazon-owned streamer taking over as home of the Primetime Emmy Awards telecast, sources confirmed with The Hollywood Reporter. Should a deal be struck, it would mark the first time in the Emmys‘ history that the awards would not air on a broadcast outlet.

The academy’s most recent eight-year agreement with ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC came to an end Monday night with NBC’s telecast of the 78th Emmys. The awards have rotated between the big four broadcasters since the mid-1990s.

If (or when) the TV Academy and Prime Video do come to an agreement, the Emmys will become the second of the major EGOT awards shows to move off of network TV. The Oscars will move to YouTube starting in 2029 in a five-year deal with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. (And given the timing of the Oscars deal, the Emmys would likely hit streaming first.)

Prime Video isn’t new to the awards business. It has held rights to the Academy of Country Music Awards since 2021. The streamer also has a lot of experience with live events through its sports rights deals with the NFL, NBA/WNBA and NASCAR.

The Grammy Awards, meanwhile, will move to ABC (with simulcasts on Hulu and Disney+) beginning next year. CBS’ 10-year deal with the Tony Awards (the T in EGOT) ended this year, but the network is two years into a five-year deal with the Golden Globes.
