Netflix Circling Andres Cantor For 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup Coverage
As Netflix prepares to host its NFL kickoff game in Australia later this week, the streaming giant is also in the process of securing talent for its coverage of the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil, and The Hollywood Reporter has learned that it is closing in on a deal with a soccer broadcasting legend.

The streaming giant is circling Andres Cantor to provide Spanish-language coverage of the event. He is also expected to have a role in the draw, which is set to be held in December.
Netflix declined to comment as of writing.
Cantor is one of the most famous soccer announcers in the world, having called some 14 FIFA World Cups, including the very first Women’s World Cup final in 1991. His signature “¡goooooooll!” call after a team scores has become synonymous with Spanish-language soccer coverage in America.

The Argentina-born broadcaster has been with NBCUniversal’s Spanish-language media division Telemundo for 26 years, though The Hollywood Reporter hears that his contract with the company will end in the coming weeks, thus allowing for his move to Netflix. He previously called games for Univision.
As it happens, FIFA is expected to bring its World Cup media rights up for bidding later this year, with future men’s and women’s and English and Spanish rights all up for grabs. With Fox, Disney, Netflix, NBCUniversal and perhaps others all expected to explore bids, broadcasters like Cantor would likely want to keep their options open for whichever company ultimately secures them.
