NBC News is reorganizing its executive ranks, with executive VP of programming Janelle Rodriguez telling staff Thursday that she will exit the network.

“It’s been an incredible year – the Super Bowl, a presidential interview, the Olympics, the World Cup, a new show launch, an interview with the Pope,” Rodriguez told staff in a memo. “I’ve spent a long time thinking about what comes next, and I’ve decided to leave now to pursue it. It’s the right moment.”

Rodriguez oversaw NBC Nightly News, breaking news coverage, and the NBC News Now streaming service, all critical pieces of the network news division.

NBC News president of editorial Rebecca Blumenstein told staffers that three other senior executives will add new responsibilities following Rodriguez’s departure.

Catherine Kim will become executive VP of editorial and content, adding oversight of NBC News Now and specials. “Bringing streaming, digital and newsgathering even closer together under Catherine will help us move faster and make the most of our journalism across every platform,” Blumenstein wrote.

Matt Carluccio, a veteran executive producer, will add oversight of NBC’s editorial units, including business, health, investigations and climate. “He will continue to lead editorial initiatives including Common Ground and Business in America, as well as the weekend editions of Today,” Blumenstein wrote, adding that he will also report to Today chief Libby Leist.

Matt Frucci, the executive producer of Nightly News, will now report directly to Blumenstein. “Over the past year, Matt has led Nightly through a period of tremendous growth and an important anchor transition, with the broadcast posting significant year-over-year audience gains, improving its competitive standing and continuing to distinguish itself with exceptional journalism every night,” she wrote.
