The Flintstones is getting ready to rock the big screen again.

Warner Bros. is developing a live-action The Flintstones feature that Ryan Gosling and Jessie Henderson are set to produce for their Open Invite banner, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

This project is still in early development and is currently seeking a screenwriter. Although planned plot details have not yet been shared, the story is said to focus on Bamm-Bamm Rubble, the son of Fred Flintstone’s good pal Barney Rubble.

The property began its life as The Flintstones, an animated ABC series from Hanna-Barbera Productions that launched in 1960 and ran for six seasons. Set in the Stone Age, it centered on Fred and Wilma Flintstone, pet dinosaur Dino and their best friends Barney and Betty Rubble.

Universal released a live-action The Flintstones movie in 1994 that starred John Goodman as Fred and Rick Moranis as Barney, with Steven Spielberg serving as executive producer. The film earned $340 million globally and spawned 2000 prequel The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas, which did not see the cast return.

News broke in 2021 that Fox was developing Bedrock, an animated sequel series to The Flintstones that had cast Elizabeth Banks to voice Fred and Wilma’s daughter, Pebbles. The show was announced as dead a few years later.

“It wasn’t something I wanted at the time,” Goodman previously told THR about Spielberg having handpicked him to play Fred. “He cast me in a couple of movies, and then when we were sitting down to read [1989’s] Always for the first time, he made the announcement, which surprised me. Nobody asked me, but it worked out. It was perfect at the time, and I love Rick Moranis. He’s just a lovely man and so funny and smart.”
