Steve Buscemi is joining the cast of FX and Hulu‘s Far Cry.

The former Boardwalk Empire star and Emmy winner is joining It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Rob Mac (who also executive produces) and Lizzy Caplan in the series, an adaptation of the long-running video game franchise. As has been the case since FX picked up the series in November 2025, details about Buscemi’s role — and the show’s story — are hard to come by.

Also of note: Buscemi, who starred the 1996 Coen brothers movie Fargo, will be working with executive producer Noah Hawley — who created the Fargo series for FX that’s inspired by the film — on Far Cry.

Like the video game, the Far Cry series is planned as an anthology, with a new story and cast each season. FX hasn’t said whether Hawley and Mac are adapting a specific iteration of the game or using the world as a jumping-off point.

Buscemi had a key role in season two of Netflix’s Wednesday as the principal of Nevermore Academy. His recent TV credits also include Miracle Workers on TBS and guest roles on The Studio and Elsbeth. He earned two Emmy nominations for playing Nucky Thompson on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire and won an Emmy in 2016 for the short-form show Park Bench With Steve Buscemi. He is repped by UTA and The Gotham Group.

Hawley and Mac are executive producing Far Cry with Simon Emanuel, Emilia Serrano of Hawley’s 26 Keys, Nicholas Frenkel of 3 Arts, Monica Macer, Peter Calloway, John Campisi, and Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin and Austin Dill of Ubisoft Film & Television. FX Productions is the studio.
