Another long-time NCIS regular is returning to the franchise.

Michael Weatherly, who starred in the first 13 seasons of the long-running CBS drama, will rejoin the cast for NCIS‘ 24th season in 2026-27. News of his return comes a day after the network announced that Mark Harmon will have a season-long, on-camera role on NCIS: Origins.

Weatherly will likewise appear throughout the coming season of NCIS as his character, Tony DiNozzo, reunites with the team in Washington, D.C. Weatherly last appeared on the flagship series in February 2024, although he and fellow former regular Cote de Pablo starred in NCIS: Tony and Ziva on Paramount+ last year. (That show was canceled after a single season.)

Details on the story that brings Tony back into the fold are being kept classified for now.

Sean Murray, Wilmer Valderrama, Brian Dietzen, Diona Reasonover, Katrina Law and Gary Cole star in NCIS. Of the current regular cast, Murray and Dietzen are the only ones whose time overlapped with Weatherly’s as a regular. Valderrama joined the series in season 14, following Weatherly’s departure to star in another CBS drama, Bull.

CBS Studios produces NCIS and all the other shows in the franchise, which will add NCIS: New York to its roster in 2026-27. The executive producers for season 24 are Steven D. Binder, Chas. Floyd Johnson, Mark Harmon, Scott Williams, Christopher J. Waild, Mark R. Schilz, José Clemente Hernandez, Avery C. Drewe, Marco Schnabel and Donald P. Bellisario.
