\n\tAfter Saturday night\u2019s performance of the hard-hitting legal drama \u2014\u00a0a role that recently won Pike an Olivier Award \u2014\u00a0the Saltburn <\/em>and Pride and Prejudice <\/em>star took to the stage for the final bows. She surprised attendees by making a short speech.<\/p>\n

\n\tPike reportedly said: \u201cI just wanted to say for anyone going to the theater, it\u2019s a huge thing that we\u2019re trying to give you. I am trying to tell you a story, and I\u2019m feeling you, and I hope you\u2019re feeling me too. Somebody was texting in this part,\u201d she continued, gesturing toward a particular section. \u201cMaybe it was very important, and maybe you\u2019re a doctor, and you\u2019re saving someone\u2019s life, and I hope you are.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cBut we do see these, we do feel them,\u201d she added. \u201cI\u2019ve got you, I feel like I\u2019ve got to hold you all, so when I feel that and see it, it\u2019s hard.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAn audience member told The Times <\/em>that Pike appeared \u201cgenuinely upset.\u201d They added: \u201cWe all felt a bit stunned. It is a very emotional play. She indicated the area of the stalls where the person was sitting but said she would not single them out.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tPike is currently starring in Suzie Miller\u2019s Inter Alia<\/em>, about a crown court judge fighting the legal system\u2019s approach to sexual violence when she finds out her own son has been accused of rape, for a limited period after a successful run at the National Theatre last year.<\/p>\n

\n\tShe\u2019s not the only star who has spoken out about theater etiquette. During Cynthia Erivo\u2019s headline-grabbing stint in Dracula<\/em>, she stopped a performance after spotting someone in the crowd filming. Andrew Scott did the same during a 2024 production of Hamlet<\/em>, when an attendee had taken out their laptop to send emails during the character\u2019s famous soliloquy.<\/p>\n

\n\tHistorically, Hugh Jackman, Daniel Craig and James McAvoy have also criticized audience members for disrupting their shows. <\/p>\n
