\n1-2 Special has acquired all North American rights to Austrian auteur Sandra Wollner\u2019s Everytime<\/em>, which won the top prize in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival.<\/p>\n

\n\tFeaturing cinematography from Aftersun<\/em>\u00a0DP Gregory Oke, the film follows a mother, her young daughter, and a teenage boy who, united by grief following a tragedy,\u00a0embark on a trip to the Canary Islands for a family holiday that never happened. Suddenly, past and present, and fiction and reality, begin to quietly blur.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe film stars Birgit Minichmayr (Everyone Else<\/em>, The White Ribbon<\/em>, The Blood Countess<\/em>), as well as \u00a0Lotte Shirin Keiling, Tristan Lopez and Carla H\u00fcttermann.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\nEverytime<\/em>\u00a0is Wollner\u2019s third feature film. Her debut, The Impossible Picture<\/em>\u00a0was awarded the best film honor by the German Film Critics Association Award and the Ingmar Bergman International Debut Award at the G\u00f6teborg Film Festival. Her second feature, The Trouble With Being Born,<\/em>\u00a0premiered at the 2020 Berlin Film Festival, where it won the special jury prize in the Encounters section.<\/p>\n

\nEverytime <\/em>was produced by Lixi Frank and David Bohun of Panama Film, alongside Viktoria Stolpe of The Barricades. Charades is handling\u00a0international\u00a0sales.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn an interview before the film\u2019s premiere, Wollner told The Hollywood Reporter<\/em> about the inspiration for the movie: \u201cWhy does the sun go on shining? One would think that after a tragedy like the one that happens in the film, the world ought to have the decency to stop. \u2026 The indifference of the universe, which doesn\u2019t care about our pain \u2014 that\u2019s what interested me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nTHR<\/em>\u2018s review called Everytime<\/em>, \u201can intriguingly understated grief drama,\u201d highlighting that \u201cits giant twist of an ending leaves us with something to contemplate.\u201d And it noted: \u201cAs a portrait of human behavior in the wake of a terrible loss, the film feels both studied and compassionate, revealing how everyone tries their best to move on but can never quite get [the grief] out of their minds.\u201d <\/p>\n
