\nPrime Minister<\/em> won the top prize of best documentary at the 2026 News & Documentary Emmy\u00a0Awards on Thursday.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe documentary, which hails from HBO Documentary Films and CNN Films, tracked Jacinda Ardern\u2019s pathway to becoming New Zealand\u2019s 40th Prime Minister. <\/p>\n

\n\tOther top honors of the night went to Simon Schama: The Holocaust, 80 Years On<\/em>, for outstanding historical documentary; Tiler Peck\u00a0for outstanding arts and culture documentary for\u00a0Tiler Peck: Suspending Time<\/em>; and National Geographic\u2019s Secrets of the Penguins<\/em> with the outstanding nature documentary award.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe documentary winners were handed out at Jazz at Lincoln Center\u2019s Frederick P. Rose Hall on Thursday night, where Michael Ian Black hosted. Emmy-winning documentarian and Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Sam Pollard was recognized with a lifetime achievement honor.<\/p>\n

\n\tPresenters at Thursday night\u2019s awards ceremony included Serena Davies\u00a0(National Geographic, NASA), Producer\u00a0Stephanie Jenkins,\u00a0Cynthia Lopez\u00a0(CEO of New York Women in Film & Television),\u00a0Tiler Peck\u00a0(NYC Ballet, Tiler Peck: Suspending Time<\/em>) and\u00a0Simon Schama (Simon Schama\u2019s Story of Us<\/em>). Christina Ruffini\u00a0also moderated discussions with nominees about the challenges of documentary filmmaking.<\/p>\n

\n\tOn Wednesday night, the prize\u00a0winners in the news categories\u00a0were announced, with ABC News and National Geographic among the night\u2019s top winners. <\/p>\n

\nABC World News Tonight with David Muir<\/em> was awarded the prize for outstanding live news program. ABC earned the most awards of the night with eight, followed by Trafficked with Mariana van Zeller<\/em>\u00a0via National Geographic\/Muck Media with seven and CNN with four. <\/p>\n
