\n\tOne of Hollywood\u2019s top talent agencies sent out a blistering company-wide memo after Variety <\/em>published a not-very-favorable story about said agency.<\/p>\n

\n\tOn Wednesday, Variety <\/em>(owned by Penske Media Corporation, which also owns The Hollywood Reporter<\/em>) published a piece by reporter Matt Donnelly that spotlights recent high-profile client departures from United Talent Agency, such as Alex Cooper and Nikki Glaser, as well as alleged consolidation pressure within the media space and agents\u2019 anxiety inside the company.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn response, UTA CEO David Kramer issued an email to employees, accusing Donnelly of threatening them and deliberately trying to damage the talent agency\u2019s business. \u201cThis morning, Variety<\/em> published an article with a clear bias against our business,\u201d he wrote. \u201cIt distorts recent events, is agenda-driven and does not reflect the strength or momentum of UTA. Let me be clear: We are thriving.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThis is a reporter that has declared in an email that UTA is a \u2018flagrant and hostile enemy,\u2019 and in a text that there would \u2018be consequences both from Variety<\/em>\/PMC and myself\u2019 to UTA, and stated to UTA employees his intent to damage UTA\u2019s business. He has recently subjected women at UTA to hostile and unprofessional behavior. That does not live up to any editorial standard. We will not tolerate it,\u201d Kramer added in the email.<\/p>\n

\n\tA spokesperson for Variety<\/em> told THR<\/em> that Donnelly\u2019s comments that were quoted in the UTA staff memo were taken out of context. \u201cOn Aug. 26, Variety published a story in our magazine about UTA losing Nikki Glaser and Alex Clooper as clients. We stand by our reporting and our editor Matt Donnelly,\u201d the spokesperson said in a statement. \u201cThe email and texts cited by UTA in its memo to staff date from last May when a UTA exec initiated a heated back and forth, regarding an on-the-record Q and A published by Variety,<\/em> which Donnelly regrets being drawn into.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nTHR<\/em> also reached out to Donnelly for comment.<\/p>\n
