ESPN+ launched way back in April 2018. In the streaming business, that is a legit \u201cway back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe timing here is no coincidence \u2014 not only do streamers tend to hike rates annually, for ESPN, it makes the most sense to do so just ahead of the NFL and college football seasons.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tESPN+ does not feature a live stream of the linear ESPN network \u2014 subscribers get ancillary and library programming, not key programming like ESPN\u2019s <em>Monday Night Football<\/em>. Just last week, founder Bill Rasmussen, died following a battle with Parkinson\u2019s Disease. He was 93; <em>The Hollywood Reporter<\/em>\u2018s appreciation can be read here.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tFor those who have yet to cut the cord, the ESPN cable network is the most expensive basic-cable channel in your package, though it doesn\u2019t cost anything near what the Unlimited app does. As it matter of fact, it doesn\u2019t even run cable subscribers what ESPN Select costs. (Generally speaking, the ESPN channel costs between $9-$10 per month today.)<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThere was a time before the (new) ESPN app where ESPN-owner Disney, Fox and Warner Bros. Discovery were going to team up to launch an all-sports streamer called Venu.
