\nHayden Panettiere\u2018s mother Lesley Vogel fired back at critics, disputed a claim in her late daughter\u2019s memoir and says the actress went \u201cdownhill\u201d after being cast in Heroes<\/em> during an interview with Good Morning America<\/em> on Monday.<\/p>\n

\n\tVogel has been criticized for her initial comments about her estranged daughter\u2019s sudden death at the age of 36. Vogel had said that the Nashville<\/em> star had \u201csadly lost her way,\u201d leading some to accuse her of being inappropriately critical of her late daughter. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI would say to the haters out there, you don\u2019t have a right to tell me how I mourn the loss of my second child,\u201d she told GMA<\/em>. \u201cThat\u2019s my domain.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tVogel also flatly denied an account by Panettiere in her May memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning<\/em>. <\/p>\n

\n\tIn the book, the actress said that when she was 19 years old, she informed her mother that she no longer wanted her to manage her career. Panettiere wrote that Vogel replied, \u201cYou owe me.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI remember being in her trailer and literally saying nothing,\u201d Vogel said. \u201cIt was a very short, very brief conversation and then she returned to set. I know I didn\u2019t say what she said I said.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tMoreover, Vogel said her daughter had a \u201chappy life\u201d until she landed her breakout role in NBC\u2019s 2006 hit Heroes<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI would say Hayden had a very happy life up until she got\u00a0Heroes<\/em>\u00a0at 16,\u201d Vogel said. \u201cHere she was the star of a major TV series, but I would say at 17 I started seeing her going downhill. As she got older and it wasn\u2019t my voice anymore, I wasn\u2019t in charge of her choices. I tried to give her the best advice I could. But again, any young person, teen, they want to be liberated. And I get that.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tVogel added that she doesn\u2019t want her daughter to be remembered for her addiction struggles. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI want Hayden to be remembered for the talented, beautiful, outgoing, intelligent woman she really was,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n

\n\tPreviously, Vogel slammed\u00a0Gayle King\u00a0and\u00a0Megyn Kelly\u00a0for their recent criticism. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI was very, very hurt and deeply disappointed in the lack of professionalism, the lack of compassion in slamming someone who\u2019s lost two children, without even a modicum of consideration,\u201d Vogel said during a recent interview with the\u00a0Daily Mail<\/em>\u00a0regarding the\u00a0CBS Mornings<\/em>\u00a0host and podcaster\u2019s separate comments.<\/p>\n

\n\tFollowing her death,\u00a0Vogel spoke to\u00a0NBC News<\/em>\u00a0on Tuesday, where she criticized her daughter\u2019s on-again-off-again\u00a0boyfriend Brian Hickerson\u00a0and said her daughter \u201clost her way.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThis person in her life that we have been trying to get rid of for quite some time was with her at her death and that was Brian Hickerson,\u201d she said at the time. \u201cI think Hayden was an amazingly talented person in so many departments and I think young people who grow up in the entertainment industry \u2014 it is a struggle and it\u2019s a very challenging industry and it\u2019s not unusual for them to sadly find the wrong path.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAccording to a\u00a0Page Six<\/em>\u00a0report in May, Vogel had chosen the \u201cno-contact route\u201d with her daughter after \u201c20 years of trauma\u201d and on the advice of professionals. \u201cAs many parents of entertainment children [know], we are all too familiar with the painful observation of watching the self-destructive paths they sometimes choose,\u201d she said at the time. \u201cNo parent hopes for this scenario.\u201d<\/p>\n
