\n\tIn a new court filing, the former child actress Raquel Lee alleges she was repeatedly raped and sexually assaulted by a Disney worker during production of The Poof Point<\/em>, a 2001 Disney Channel original movie. The suit, which doesn\u2019t name the perpetrator, accuses the studio of negligence.<\/p>\n

\n\tLee, who was 14 years old at the time, claims that a \u201cmiddle-aged, male employee who was involved in the filming of the movie\u201d groomed and then assaulted her, first on multiple occasions in his room at a hotel where the cast and crew were staying during production in Salt Lake City and then later on a flight back to Los Angeles. In addition, the alleged assailant \u201cregularly whispered sexually explicit and harassing comments\u201d into her ear while on set and \u201cused hugs to get close to her.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe complaint contends that this misconduct was done \u201cin plain view of the cast and crew and could be heard by the sound technicians managing the cast\u2019s microphones\u201d \u2014 yet \u201cno one at Disney intervened.\u201d The filing also asserts that the man \u201cregularly made sexually explicit jokes and commentary on the set\u201d around minors, including \u201csexually explicit comments about\u201d Lee\u2019s body. (In addition, she was allegedly allowed to be separated from her on-set guardian \u201cfor the vast majority of each day.\u201d)<\/p>\n

\n\tLee notes that her professional performance soon noticeably declined and that multiple Disney executives attacked her \u201cchanged behavior and trauma response,\u201d accusing her of \u201cbeing \u2018out of control,\u2019 causing the movie to go \u2018haywire,\u2019 \u2018need[ing] Jesus,\u2019 having \u2018a demon inside her\u2019 and engaging in sex acts with a member of the crew at the age of 14.\u201d The litigation adds, \u201cDisney threatened to, and did, cancel\u201d her role in a then-forthcoming production with the studio.<\/p>\n

\n\tLee is represented by Doug Wigdor, a prominent plaintiffs\u2019 employment and sexual-misconduct lawyer. He has previously represented Cassie Ventura against Sean \u201cDiddy\u201d Combs; Nafissatou Diallo, the hotel housekeeper who accused then-IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn of sexual assault; and multiple women who alleged misconduct by Harvey Weinstein.<\/p>\n

\n\tBoth Wigdor and Disney declined to comment on the litigation.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe complaint contends that Lee\u2019s experience was part of a long pattern at the studio: \u201cThis is not the first time that Disney has enabled a sexual predator to target and abuse vulnerable victims.\u201d Wigdor\u2019s filing cites a litany of previously reported accusations of predatory misconduct over decades which have been connected to the company.<\/p>\n

\n\tShortly after The Poof Point<\/em>, Lee went on to recur as a voiceover artist on the animated Disney Channel animated sitcom The Proud Family<\/em>, and recently participated again in its Disney+ revival, The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder<\/em>. She also worked with the company when she appeared on FX\u2019s Snowfall<\/em> in 2019.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn addition, Lee participated in the hit 2024 docuseries Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV<\/em>, in which she reflected on her treatment as a Black performer on Nickelodeon\u2019s The Amanda Show<\/em>. She didn\u2019t levy her The Poof Point<\/em> claims in the docuseries, which became a cultural phenomenon for its focus on alleged misconduct against child actors. However, after its airing, she noted that Drake Bell\u2019s discussion of experiencing on-set sexual abuse was \u201cretraumatizing\u201d for her.<\/p>\n
