\n\tSunday is family day. So, it just made sense for the 79th edition\u00a0of the\u00a0Locarno Film Festival to book Paper Tiger<\/em>, written and directed by\u00a0James Gray and starring\u00a0Adam Driver,\u00a0Scarlett Johansson and\u00a0Miles Teller, for Sunday evening. After all, the loosely autobiographical movie tells the story of a suburban family that becomes entangled with the Russian mob.<\/p>\n

\n\tJust before the Paper Tiger<\/em> screening, Gray received the\u00a0Career Leopard honor\u00a0from the Swiss festival in a moment that seemed worthy of a big cat pun. <\/p>\n

\n\tLooking out at the city\u2019s big central square, the Piazza Grande, which seats 8,000 people, the U.S. auteur shared the mix of excitement and nervousness that he was feeling.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI didn\u2019t expect this crowd. I sort of feel like I\u2019m in the Beatles or something,\u201d he told the big crowd. \u201cThis is very strange. I\u2019m very nervous because usually I\u2019m behind the camera and I\u2019m yelling at other people to do things and telling them what to do. And now I\u2019ve got to do some talking. It\u2019s vaguely terrifying.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tGray also called the experience \u201cvery moving,\u201d before resorting to some deadpan humor. \u201cWhen I told my wife, I said, \u2018Hey, they want to give me this prize in Locarno,’\u201d the filmmaker shared. \u201cMy wife said, \u2018That\u2019s very nice. Now, can you take out the garbage?’\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tContinued the U.S. honoree: \u201cSo this \u2026 gives you a kind of perspective in life. But my wife\u2019s feelings aside, it\u2019s very moving to me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tContinuing with the family theme, Gray told the Locarno outdoor audience about Paper Tiger<\/em>: \u201cYou\u2019re going to see pretty much where I grew up. A lot of it is autobiographical. You\u2019ll see my neighborhood, and you\u2019ll say, \u2018Oh my God.\u2019 Because I got here with this [award], and I came from that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tGray also concluded that just because he received this year\u2019s Career Leopard, film fans shouldn\u2019t write him off yet. \u201cI\u2019m not old,\u201d he said. \u201cI have many good films, hopefully, left, and maybe better. So don\u2019t age me out yet.\u201d<\/p>\n
