Concacaf, the association which represents national soccer associations across the Americans and the Caribbean, including the United States, has also voted to reject the deal.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tOn Friday, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), without directly rejecting the FIFA proposal, issued a statement of solidarity with UEFA and Concacaf. The plan has provoked \u201cunprecedented divisions\u201d between FIFA members, the AFC said in a statement, and \u201ccannot realistically\u201d achieve \u201cthe necessary broad consensus and unity\u201d needed to go forward.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe united opposition should mean the end of Infantino\u2019s deal. Together, the UEFA, Concacaf and the AFC account for 143 of FIFA\u2019s 211 members, more than enough to sink the proposal.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/uspropertymoves.com\/?p=4665\">The Reporter Who Won\u2019t Give Up On the Nancy Guthrie Kidnapping Story<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\n\tFor the first time since he was elected president of FIFA in 2016, Infantino himself looks under threat.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tIn its statement, the Asian Football Confederation called on FIFA to undertake \u201can urgent review of its governance and decision-making framework.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tOn Friday Carlos Cordeiro, one of Infantino\u2019s senior advisors, resigned in protest over the controversial plan, calling it \u201ca bad deal\u201d that would \u201cmortgage football\u2019s future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tU.K. Prime Minister Andy Burnham, a passionate soccer fan, has called out Infantino directly, saying Friday he was \u201cthe wrong man\u201d to lead FIFA.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tBefore this scandal, Infantino looked certain to win a fourth term as FIFA president. He was running unopposed in elections, to be held in March, 2027.
