\n\tCecilia Vega, the former 60 Minutes<\/em> correspondent who was fired in May, is reflecting on her time with the newsmagazine, alleging that she felt pressure to insert political bias into segments that did not make it to air. <\/p>\n

\n\tIn an interview with ABC News\u2019 John Qui\u00f1ones at the National Association of Hispanic Journalists conference, Vega alleged that higher-ups requested specific changes to three of her segments from this year that she could did find evidence for, per The New York Times<\/em>. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019ve gone head-to-head with editors for 25 years in this business,\u201d she said at the Thursday conference. \u201cBut never in my career, until now, have I felt that those edits, that those suggestions, came from a place of misinformation or politics.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tPer the Times<\/em>, Vega said executives asked her to add video of protestors attacking citizens whom they thought were Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in a January segment about ICE; she was also asked to add video of a police chief rolling his eyes during a news conference. Vega did not find video of either incidents, she said.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe ex-60 Minutes<\/em> correspondent also said in a February segment about West Virginia poverty, she was asked to mention Vice President JD Vance, as he\u2019d previously written about poverty in Ohio. \u201cShe said the piece was not focused on politicians or political voices,\u201d the Times<\/em> notes.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe third requested changed, Vega said per the Times<\/em>, was to include a line saying Iran was outgunned by the United States and Israel in another segment. Vega described it as \u201can administration talking point.\u201d <\/p>\n

\nThe Hollywood Reporter<\/em> has reached out to CBS News for comment. <\/p>\n

\n\tVega previously claimed she had \u201cexperienced efforts to insert political bias into our stories\u201d in a statement after her firing. \u201cReporting teams have held back\u00a0on submitting story pitches about important news topics out of fear of the internal repercussions,\u201d she wrote at the time. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cLet\u2019s call this what it is: censorship, both imposed and self-driven,\u201d Vega added.\u00a0\u201cIt is dangerous for the show and dangerous for democracy.\u201d At the time, a CBS News spokesperson said in response to her statement, \u201cWe respect Ms. Vega and her contributions, but her claims are not based in reality.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tVega was fired from 60 Minutes<\/em> as part of CBS News\u00a0editor-in-chief Bari Weiss\u2018 major overhaul that also saw the dismissal of executive producer Tanya Simon, Scott Pelley and\u00a0Sharyn Alfonsi. Pelley was fired after an\u00a0intense meeting\u00a0with\u00a060 Minutes<\/em>\u2018 new EP, Nick Bilton, where he claimed that Weiss\u00a0is \u201cmurdering\u00a060 Minutes<\/em>. She does not love this place; she was brought in to kill it and is doing exactly that.\u201d He also told Bilton that he had \u201cslender qualifications\u201d for the job, and suggested he was not welcome at the flagship newsmagazine.<\/p>\n

\n\tAfter the news was announced that he was let go from\u00a060 Minutes<\/em>, Pelley\u00a0released a statement\u00a0where he accused Weiss of \u201cincompetence and unprofessionalism,\u201d and claimed that CBS News management \u201cinstructed me to inject falsehoods and bias into a politically sensitive story.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nWeiss pushed back\u00a0against Pelley during a morning call with staff shortly after, arguing that he broke \u201ctrust and mutual respect.\u201d<\/p>\n
