\n\tBackyards aren\u2019t just for baseball anymore. Playground Productions, a media company focused on children and families, is adapting video game Backyard Baseball<\/em> into an animated series titled Backyard Sports<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\nBackyard Sports: The Animated Series<\/em> will star (in voice form) Tiffany Haddish\u00a0as Kiesha Phillips,\u00a0Donald Faison\u00a0as Dante Robinson,\u00a0Christopher Mintz-Plasse\u00a0as Dmitri Petrovich,\u00a0Arturo Castro\u00a0as star player Pablo Sanchez,\u00a0Utkarsh Ambudkar\u00a0as Achmed Khan, Deborah Baker Jr.\u00a0as Kimmy Eckman,\u00a0Michael Vlamis\u00a0as Tony Delvecchio,\u00a0Ashleigh Crystal Hairston\u00a0as Sunny Day,\u00a0Will Neff\u00a0as Mr. Clanky,\u00a0Vincent Tong\u00a0as Kenny Kawaguchi,\u00a0Joey Rudman\u00a0as Marky Dubois and\u00a0Lindsay Barnett\u00a0as Vinnie.<\/p>\n

\n\tThere are more than 30 original \u201cBackyard Kids\u201d from the game(s), which first launched in 1997. Later iterations added kid versions of Major League Baseball superstars like Derek Jeter and Randy Johnson.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe news came in concert with the \u201cBackyard Sports Returns\u201d panel at San Diego Comic-Con, which took place a few weeks after the July 9 release of the new-gen Backyard Baseball<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\nBackyard Sports: The Animated Series<\/em> is executive produced by Playground CEO Lindsay Barnett. Chris Waters is showrunner; Adam Aseraf and Sarah Nevada Smith serve as head writers and are co-executive producers. Backyard Sports: The Animated Series<\/em> consists of 20 episodes at about 11 minutes each. The Backyard Baseball update and the accompanying animated series are a part of what Playground calls its growing \u201cBackyardiverse.\u201d Hopefully they stop calling it that soon.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI am beyond thrilled to announce our series today,\u201d said\u00a0Lindsay Barnett, CEO of Playground Productions. \u201cThe Backyard Sports characters have inspired imaginations for generations, and their stories have always felt bigger than the game itself. As Backyard Baseball<\/em> expands with the new game on Steam and soon consoles, bringing these characters into new forms of storytelling feels like a natural extension of the Backyard universe.\u201d<\/p>\n
