Simmons and Titus Welliver Lead MGM+\u2019s Handsome but Generic Gangster Drama<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\n\tBut when it came time to explore Elle\u2019s high school years, specifically another outsider experience moving to Seattle, 25 years after the original film was released, the team behind <em>Elle<\/em>, the Prime Video <em>Legally Blonde<\/em> prequel that began streaming earlier this month, saw an opportunity to spend more time not only with the title character, now played by Lexi Minetree, but also with the characters around her in the form of an eight-episode series that has already been renewed for and completed production on season two.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cWhen you have hours and hours and hours, obviously you can get so much more in depth with the character and get to know her family so it\u2019s a much more dynamic way to tell the story of this girl,\u201d co-showrunner Caroline Dries told <em>The Hollywood Reporter<\/em> at <em>Elle<\/em>\u2018s New York premiere last month.<\/p>\n<p>\nJason Moore \u2014 who directed the first two episodes of <em>Elle<\/em>, serves as an executive producer on the first season and has a resume that includes helming the first <em>Pitch Perfect<\/em> movie \u2014 said the series in particular offered the opportunity to better flesh out Elle\u2019s family.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cI think the key thing that a TV show offers is the depth of time,\u201d Moore told <em>THR<\/em> at the premiere. \u201cYou can explore a character for four to five hours as opposed to only 90 minutes. There\u2019s a depth to Reese\u2019s performance [in <em>Legally Blonde<\/em>], no doubt about it. Most of the people around her are less deep. Her parents are drawn cartoon-y and the students only get a certain amount of airtime, so you see how she grows in that period. When you can really settle into longer scenes, conversations with her mom and seeing how we\u2019re all shaped by our parents, that\u2019s a slow process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tCo-showrunner Laura Kittrell said she was particularly excited to have viewers \u201cmeet the characters that are formed from whole cloth for the show and the world that we\u2019ve created for Elle that\u2019s separate from the movie.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tExecutive producer Lauren Neustadter, who executive produces <em>Elle<\/em> through her and Witherspoon\u2019s Hello Sunshine, said that while Witherspoon\u2019s Elle is confident going into Harvard Law, they wanted to see what the character was like during the psychologically challenging high school years, and as Tom Everett Scott, who plays Elle\u2019s father, put it, \u201can age that\u2019s even more fragile than finishing college.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tAnd Moore added that while Minetree\u2019s Elle has the same \u201cintrepid spirit\u201d that came across through Witherspoon\u2019s performance, the series focuses more on \u201chow she began.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cWhen you ask who is Elle Woods alone in a room wearing a T-shirt, that\u2019s <em>Elle<\/em> in a nutshell,\u201d Moore said.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe <em>Elle<\/em> castmembers, writers, director and producers all sang Minetree\u2019s praises.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/uspropertymoves.com\/?p=3482\">Patti LuPone\u2019s Gay Cruise Ship Blocked (Again) From Entering Egypt<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cLexi is a dream come true to work with truly,\u201d Dries said. \u201cShe\u2019s so funny, she\u2019s smart, she\u2019s goofy, she\u2019s kind, she\u2019s inclusive, she\u2019s all of the things you\u2019d expect to find in Elle Woods. She\u2019s also a great actor, which I don\u2019t think we stress enough because we\u2019re so glowing about her personality. She\u2019s so pitch perfect that it\u2019s almost an afterthought, her performance. We take it for granted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tBeyond her pleasant disposition and acting ability, Moore was impressed by her attention to detail and preparation.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cYou could just tell that this young woman thinks like Elle Woods or Reese or Tracy Flick or these characters, that she\u2019s organized; she\u2019s thoughtful; she\u2019s determined; she\u2019s vocal; she\u2019s articulate; she\u2019s funny; and that\u2019s just who she is naturally,\u201d he said. \u201cWatching the amount of detail that she put in, I\u2019ve rarely worked with actors who have that much forethought. She\u2019s thinking about the whole arc of the series. I think she had all of the scripts memorized when she started shooting the first episode because she\u2019s that kind of actor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tAccording to Neustadter, Minetree nailed the assignment from her initial audition tape, famously inspired by Elle\u2019s Harvard Law admissions video essay from <em>Legally Blonde<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cWe really saw from that how incredibly smart she was, how much she understood the character and what we were trying to do,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd then when she read the scenes, she just blew us away. I think she just really channels Reese without ever imitating her, and I think she just does an amazing job of becoming the character of Elle Woods.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tNeustadter hopes the series can provide a \u201cshot of joy and optimism\u201d at a time when the \u201cworld feels very heavy.\u201d Meanwhile, Scott, who reconnects with his \u201990s roots in the show, shared how he was proud to be part of a franchise that was so inspiring for his own daughter, who accompanied him to the premiere.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tRecalling how he got the audition when he was visiting New York with her to help her find an apartment, they watched the original movie, \u201cand my daughter told me how important it\u2019s been to her, this character and how inspiring.
