\n\tPeter Van Norden, the actor who appeared in the Police Academy<\/em> and Naked Gun<\/em> films, has died. He was 75.<\/p>\n

\n\tVan Norden\u2019s son, Robert, announced that his father died on Thursday. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cPeter passed away peacefully last night with his wife, Wendy, at his side,\u201d Robert wrote in an Instagram post. \u201cHe was a terrific father, husband, friend, and a greatly respected member of the theater community. He will be missed.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tBorn Dec. 16, 1950, Van Norden earned his first acting credit in the late 1970s in the comedy Squeeze Play<\/em>. He went on to appear in numerous film projects, including the 1985 Police Academy<\/em> follow-up, entitled Their First Assignment<\/em>. There, Van Norden portrayed policeman Vinnie Schtulman, the first partner of Steve Guttenberg\u2019s Carey Mahoney.<\/p>\n

\n\tAnother sequel, he acted in the second Naked Gun<\/em> movie in 1991, where he took on the role of John Sununu, President George H. W. Bush\u2019s former White House chief of staff. <\/p>\n

\n\tOn the small screen, he has acted in Three\u2019s A Crowd<\/em> (1985); an episode of Silver Spoons<\/em>; a 1991 episode of Matlock<\/em>; L.A. Law <\/em>(1990-1992); The Stand<\/em>; Murder, She Wrote<\/em> (1989-1996); two 2004 episodes of Days of Our Lives<\/em>; and 9-1-1<\/em> (2019). <\/p>\n

\n\tVan Norden\u2019s film credits include The Accused<\/em>; An Innocent Man<\/em>; Love Hurts; Hunky Dory; <\/em>and West Virginia<\/em>, among others. <\/p>\n

\n\tOutside film and TV, Van Norden had an extensive stage career, appearing in various Broadway, off-Broadway and regional productions. His Broadway stints included features in St. Joan, Macbeth, Little Johnny Jones, Romeo and Juliet <\/em>and The Inspector General<\/em>. He performed his final stage role last year in Corktown \u201939<\/em> at Los Angeles\u2019 Matrix Theatre.<\/p>\n

\n\tVan Norden was also part of The Rehearsal Room actors workshop, which \u201chelp[s] actors and artists grow their careers through challenging material.\u201d Last August, he partook in breaking down Shakespeare\u2019s\u00a0Richard III<\/em>. <\/p>\n
