Jesse Eisenberg (A Real Pain<\/em>,\u00a0When You Finish Saving the World, The Social Network<\/em><\/em>) told the\u00a0Karlovy Vary\u00a0International\u00a0Film Festival\u00a0(KVIFF) about social media and his thoughts on Facebook parent Meta Platforms chairman and CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Asked about playing Zuckerberg in The Social Network<\/em>, Eisenberg recalled: \u201cHe wasn\u2019t very well-known at the time, so the movie seemed like such a strange thing to make because no one really knew who he was. \u2026 He wasn\u2019t in the public [eye] a lot, so it was more just an interesting character.\u201d<\/p>\n

Things have changed since then. \u201cI thought of it like an interesting character, and then he\u2019s become famous, and now I don\u2019t want to do the movie because they\u2019re doing a new movie,\u201d Eisenberg said. \u201cBut I don\u2019t want to be associated with him anymore, because I don\u2019t really like the comparison.\u201d<\/p>\n

Concluded the creative: \u201cI see that the person who created this website is not a person who cares about people. If this guy is the creator of this world, I don\u2019t want to live in that world.\u201d<\/p>\n

The actor, writer and director made the comments during a KVIFF Talk, a popular feature of the festival that allows fans and others to listen to big names discuss their work and careers.<\/p>\n

Eisenberg is not a social media user. \u201cI talk about myself so much, it\u2019s not healthy,\u201d he explained. \u201cI\u2019m not on any of that stuff. All that stuff scares me so much \u2013 Facebook or social media, Twitter, whatever. Already, I feel humiliated to be in public talking about myself. It\u2019s disgusting, so I\u2019m not going to say, \u2018Hey, I drank this water.\u2019 All that stuff terrifies me.\u201d<\/p>\n

One of the final questions of his appearance saw a fan ask if Eisenberg has ever experienced anything that felt magical or that he couldn\u2019t logically explain. \u201cI took acid once,\u201d he replied. \u201cAnd I remember thinking, \u2018I\u2019m on the floor, and I can\u2019t move.\u2019 And I said to my friend, who was a more regular user of it: \u2018Is this normal?\u2019 And he said, \u2018No, you should be able to move.\u2019 And then also having a child,\u201d Concluded Eisenberg: \u201cI guess between taking the Acid and bringing life into this world and nurturing it through happiness and hard times are the two most special experiences of my life.\u201d<\/p>\n

Eisenberg\u2019s KVIFF Talk capped off a busy day for him. In the late morning, he had received the fest\u2019s President\u2019s Award before a screening of\u00a0The Double<\/em>, directed by Richard Ayoade, in which Eisenberg plays the lead role.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The star is one of many big names in the spotlight during the double anniversary 60th edition\u00a0in the 80th year of the Czech fest, which runs July 3-11.<\/p>\n

During Friday\u2019s opening night ceremony of KVIFF 2026, Dustin Hoffman (The Graduate<\/em>, Kramer vs. Kramer<\/em>,\u00a0Rain Man<\/em>) was honored with the fest\u2019s Crystal Globe for Outstanding Artistic Contributions to World Cinema, while Maggie Gyllenhaal\u00a0(The Bride!<\/em>, The Lost Daughter<\/em>,\u00a0Secretary<\/em>,\u00a0The Honourable Woman<\/em>) received its President\u2019s Award. Harvey Keitel (Mean Streets<\/em>, Taxi Driver<\/em>, Reservoir Dogs<\/em>) was also among the famous names walking the expanded red carpet of the festival in the Czech spa town.<\/p>\n

Eisenberg\u2019s upcoming film as a writer and director,\u00a0The Debut<\/em>, stars Julianne Moore and Paul Giamatti. Eisenberg also co-stars in and wrote the music and lyrics for the film\u2019s musical-within-the-movie. The film will be released in the fall by A24.<\/p>\n
