After all, the KVIFF website tells us, \u201che opens himself up to something intangible \u2013 a force that permeates the landscape, bodies, and time itself.\u201d The man\u2019s enigmatic nature \u201cstems from the dark side of humanity and from his contact with the sacred,\u201d it adds. <\/p>\n<p>Without traditional storytelling but a focus on sound design and a hypnotic visual style, <em>Against Nature<\/em> promises \u201can absorbing cinematic experience that explores human cruelty as part of a cycle of destruction from which humanity has yet to find a way out,\u201d as the KVIFF website notes.<\/p>\n<p>Press notes for the film hint at a looming catastrophe. Fernanda de la Peza of C\u00e1rcava is the other producer. The movie was co-produced by The Lift and Carlos Reygadas.\u00a0Edited by\u00a0\u00d3scar Enr\u00edquez with cinematography by Flavia Mart\u00ednez and Edson Reyes, <em>Against Nature<\/em> features music by Ela Minus and Ariel Guzik, with sound by Andr\u00e9s Silva.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The film draws from a police report of a murder that I found in a local newspaper in Mexico,\u201d Bertha explains. \u201cIf we observe our recorded history, expansion, dominion of resources and violence are constant forces in the human story. Is human progress taking us away from nature and the world or bringing us closer to it?\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Jon\u00e1s \u201cnavigates a world he feels he does not have access to, haunted by a past that keeps coming back, and an incapacity to communicate his feelings,\u201d the filmmaker adds. \u201cWe shot on 35 millimeter on a very limited amount of film, in the surroundings and locations in the area where the real incident happened, under difficult weather conditions and with a cast of local non-actors.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The writer-director even lived in the location for six months prior to the start of filming, \u201cimmersing myself in the landscapes and the rhythms of daily life there,\u201d he shares. With \u201cour markers to understand the world\u201d at risk, \u201cI wanted to make a film that questions and helps us regain our relationship with reality, with each other, and bring us closer to our hearts and dreams.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>THR<\/em> can now exclusively premiere the trailer for <em>Against Nature<\/em>. It mentions hatred for the world, alienation, evil and \u201cthat black sphere.\u201d After all, <em>Against Nature<\/em> is all about the unsettling atmosphere and the senses.
