Pegged as Love Island USA\u2019s <\/em>companion show to unpack each week\u2019s drama, Miller and Pessoa have what many past hosts of Aftersun<\/em> don\u2019t: Chemistry. Both women have gone viral in their own right, with their castings as co-hosts breathing life into the series, making it appointment television right alongside new episodes of Love Island USA.\u00a0<\/em>\n<\/p>\n

What do Miller and Pessoa attribute to the newfound success of Aftersun<\/em>? \u201cWomen on the mic,\u201d the Summer House<\/em> star tells The Hollywood Reporter<\/em>. \u201cI feel like, obviously, there\u2019s an epidemic of men on podcasts, and this is our effort to uproot that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pessoa adds, \u201cI think that we are two people who have opinions, but we also aren\u2019t vicious people, unless you give us a reason to be. Then I can get creative.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Each week, Miller and Pessoa prep for Aftersun<\/em> just like you and I do, by catching up on new episodes. And even though they host Love Island<\/em>\u2018s weekly aftershow, they don\u2019t receive any special treatment and have to wait to catch up on the drama when they\u2019re sent cut episodes after<\/em> they release on Peacock.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey send us the episodes after it\u2019s aired in America,\u201d Miller admits, as Pessoa says, \u201cWe\u2019re always a little bit delayed. So when an episode comes out, I will not check Threads.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Below, Miller and Pessoa dish on the success of Aftersun<\/em>, what a day of Friday filming looks like, the advice they give dumped Islanders for life post-Love Island<\/em> and how Miller is getting prepared for season 35 of Dancing With the Stars<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Aftersun<\/em> has had a huge resurgence this year, and viewers are really enjoying the revamped format. It feels much more insidery and somewhat like a podcast. What elements of the revamped Aftersun<\/em> do you think have contributed to the success of the show?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

CIARA MILLER<\/strong> Women on the mic.<\/p>\n

TEFI PESSOA<\/strong> Undeniable friendship and laughter.<\/p>\n

MILLER<\/strong> Yeah, women on the mic. I feel like, obviously, there\u2019s an epidemic of men on podcasts, and so this is our effort to uproot that. Yeah, I just feel like if you just talk more than them, faster than them, outsmart them, and women are funnier than men, right? Exactly.\u00a0<\/p>\n

PESSOA<\/strong> I think that we are two people who have opinions, but we also aren\u2019t vicious people, unless you give us a reason to be. Then I can get creative. But we are friends in real life, and we also have different perspectives on reality TV, being as Ciara is on reality television, and I am addicted to it, because I am a child of Nick and Jessica, the Newlyweds<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

MILLER <\/strong>She\u2019s an encyclopedia of pop culture and all things reality TV. Like, I actually think she has a photographic memory.\u00a0<\/p>\n

PESSOA <\/strong>I wish.<\/p>\n

MILLER <\/strong>No, I think you do, though.\u00a0<\/p>\n

PESSOA <\/strong>Thank you. But I think that we have a great chemistry, and I think we\u2019re funny.\u00a0<\/p>\n

MILLER <\/strong>Yeah, we got jokes.<\/p>\n

PESSOA <\/strong>We got jokes.\u00a0<\/p>\n

MILLER <\/strong>I got a few jokes.<\/p>\n

PESSOA <\/strong>You know what it is? We bite into a bit. Oh, we love us a bit.\u00a0<\/p>\n

MILLER<\/strong> You know what? Silly geese.<\/p>\n

PESSOA <\/strong>There\u2019s not enough geese out there, and we come from a long line of silly geese. There\u2019s a lot of people, I think, in the internet now that know that rage baiting gets a lot of views. And I\u2019m never gonna judge anybody for how they pay their bills, but I think there\u2019s not a lot of people online talking about what they do like, and I\u2019m sick of hearing what people don\u2019t like. So, I think that\u2019s also an effort that we try to make, where I don\u2019t want to ragebait anybody. I don\u2019t want to talk about what I don\u2019t like. Let\u2019s talk about what we do like and still humanize people, but you can humanize somebody and poke fun and still hold them accountable, and I think we dance that dance pretty well. Hey, she\u2019ll be on Dancing With the Stars<\/em> later this year!<\/p>\n

MILLER <\/strong>Plugging my next project.<\/p>\n

PESSOA <\/strong>Period. Team Ciara. #TeamCiara, I\u2019ll be starting that one.<\/p>\n

What is the filming schedule like for <\/strong>Aftersun<\/em><\/strong>? <\/strong>Aftersun<\/em><\/strong> comes out on Saturdays, but what does the week leading up to its release look like?<\/strong><\/p>\n

MILLER<\/strong> A lot of studying, a lot of lying in the sun.<\/p>\n

PESSOA <\/strong>A lot of lying in the sun, and studying.<\/p>\n

MILLER<\/strong> A lot of catching up on episodes. I don\u2019t let her talk to me about the episodes prior to. Because every single week, she will [try]. I\u2019m like, we have to record a whole show on this, so don\u2019t tell me your opinion on Tuesday, so save your opinions.<\/p>\n

PESSOA<\/strong> We show up on 10 a.m. Friday.<\/p>\n

MILLER<\/strong> We get in glam, and then when we sit down, that\u2019s us discussing it for the first time. I take notes in my phone as I\u2019m watching it.<\/p>\n

PESSOA<\/strong> And I don\u2019t.<\/p>\n

MILLER<\/strong> Because she has photographic memory, and I don\u2019t.<\/p>\n

PESSOA<\/strong> But we start at like 3:30 [p.m.], and then we usually sit down, because we we love our partners, Cuervo Tequila, and we do plugs for them, and then we wrap around 9 p.m., and then we don\u2019t talk to each other in the car on the way home.<\/p>\n

MILLER<\/strong> We\u2019ve said everything.\u00a0<\/p>\n

PESSOA<\/strong> Truly, to the editor\u2019s credit, we talk so fucking much, and still it\u2019s like a seamless show.<\/p>\n

MILLER<\/strong> Which people were like, \u201cCiara, you\u2019re talking over her.\u201d It\u2019s literally us talking so much that they have to figure out where to cut things, because we don\u2019t shut up.<\/p>\n

PESSOA <\/strong>We don\u2019t shut up. But I hate that too, that people are like, \u201cOh, you\u2019re talking over each other\u201d \u2014 you\u2019ve never seen two girls excited to see each other at brunch? Shut up. Whatever. Also I know no one talks over me. Are you kidding? (Laughs<\/em>.) Who? Literally, are you crazy? What are you talking about? She\u2019s not talking over me, I\u2019m letting her get a word in.<\/p>\n

MILLER<\/strong> No, literally, I\u2019m fighting for my life sometimes (Laughs<\/em>). I wanted to put that on Threads one day.<\/p>\n

PESSOA<\/strong> No one\u2019s talked over me since 1998.<\/p>\n

As each new season of Love Island<\/em> comes out, fans have more and more to say. This year there\u2019s been a conversation about fans believing that votes could have been rigged, specifically in the case of Sol and Gabriel\u2019s dumpings. What are your opinions on fans believing that the voting or dumpings could have been rigged?<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n

PESSOA <\/strong>Well, I think Americans have been saying that every voting. There is something wrong with this electoral college.\u00a0<\/p>\n

MILLER <\/strong>But, you know, no, I don\u2019t think [votings are rigged.] It feels like very low stakes to rig the voting. But, who are we?<\/p>\n

PESSOA <\/strong>I think NBC would rig the voting so they can keep their $100k (Laughs<\/em>), not give it away. Period. But, I don\u2019t think that\u2019s rigged at all. And I think production, it\u2019s very fair, to be honest. There are some people that we don\u2019t want to see go, and alas\u2026<\/p>\n

MILLER<\/strong> If someone is rigging the election, I feel like B613 can figure it out.<\/p>\n

You both have experience navigating the whirlwind that is social media. As you meet with dumped islanders on Aftersun<\/em> as they are preparing to enter post-villa life, is there any advice that you share with them, or would you rather not give them advice and let them navigate as they seem fit?<\/strong><\/p>\n

PESSOA <\/strong>I always tell them don\u2019t let people tell you who you are.<\/p>\n

MILLER <\/strong>And also it\u2019s hard to give advice, because you really do have to go through it to kind of learn the ups, the downs of it. But I always say, keep your friends that you had from the very beginning. Like, they will keep you grounded, they will tell you everything you need to know, and the internet is not a real place. Although people have parasocial relationships with you, they don\u2019t know you, so keep that in mind.\u00a0<\/p>\n

PESSOA <\/strong>We\u2019re also sometimes the first friendly faces that aren\u2019t production that [dumped Islanders] see, and we remember that these kids are 24, 25\u2026<\/p>\n

MILLER <\/strong>Yeah, they\u2019re babies.<\/p>\n

PESSOA <\/strong>So, we do try to be like, \u201cHi, you\u2019re safe here. We\u2019re gonna talk, and we\u2019re not going to make you out to be this, like, villain edit thing,\u201d you know.<\/p>\n

MILLER<\/strong> But also, we\u2019re not coming here with pitchforks, and their perspective is valid. Obviously, we can push and pull a little bit, but at the end of the day, they lived with that experience, we didn\u2019t.<\/p>\n

PESSOA <\/strong>A microphone is dangerous enough; we don\u2019t have to do anything.<\/p>\n

Season eight is nearing its end. What couples or Islanders are y\u2019all\u2019s favorite at the moment, and is there a couple that you think will definitely make it to the finale?<\/strong><\/p>\n

PESSOA <\/strong>Course, I do!<\/p>\n

MILLER <\/strong>Brinity! We are huge Brinity fans. I\u2019m actually very much an Aniya and Carl fan. I hope that they can ride this out.<\/p>\n

PESSOA <\/strong>We want Aniya to be with somebody who wants her, and that she also wants, so if that\u2019s not meant to be\u2026<\/p>\n

MILLER <\/strong>Right, that\u2019s true. I\u2019m really interested to see what Melanie and Sincere are gonna do, you know, what\u2019s gonna happen post-Movie Night.<\/p>\n

PESSOA <\/strong>I\u2019ve been Melanie and Sincere in many scenarios.<\/p>\n

MILLER<\/strong> Oh my God.<\/p>\n

PESSOA <\/strong>And that\u2019s being 25.<\/p>\n

The final part of <\/strong>Movie Night<\/strong> will come out tomorrow. Have you seen that cut yet?<\/strong><\/p>\n

MILLER <\/strong>We actually haven\u2019t. I just want to let you know, they send us the episodes after it\u2019s aired in America.\u00a0<\/p>\n

PESSOA <\/strong>Yeah, we just get a link.<\/p>\n

MILLER <\/strong>So, we\u2019re honestly behind.<\/p>\n

PESSOA <\/strong>We\u2019re always behind it, because we don\u2019t have VPNs, so we\u2019re always a little bit delayed. So when an episode comes out, I will not check Threads.<\/p>\n

MILLER <\/strong>Yeah, you can\u2019t even get on Threads because the clips are everywhere.\u00a0<\/p>\n

PESSOA <\/strong>I\u2019m like, \u201cCiara, he came out of a cake?!\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Are there any moments that were not shown in the first part of Movie Night that you think have<\/em> to be shown in the second part on Thursday?<\/strong><\/p>\n

PESSOA <\/strong>I feel like they\u2019re all dangerous.\u00a0<\/p>\n

MILLER <\/strong>KC has to have another section in there. Corbin has to have another section in there. KC and Sincere both need to have like two parters, but that\u2019s my opinion. But we\u2019ll see.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re nearing the end of <\/strong>Love Island<\/em><\/strong> season eight, so what are both of y\u2019all\u2019s plans post-<\/strong>Love Island Aftersun<\/em><\/strong>? Do you see reality TV both in your future? Ciara, we know you\u2019re doing <\/strong>Dancing With the Stars.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

PESSOA <\/strong>I\u2019m going to be front row at Dancing With the Stars<\/em> with a shirt that says \u201cDance Ciara, Dance.\u201d They\u2019re gonna think it\u2019s, like, a memorial shirt. (Laughs<\/em>.) I don\u2019t think I have any reality TV aspirations.<\/p>\n

MILLER<\/strong> She\u2019s gonna be marked safe.<\/p>\n

PESSOA <\/strong>I\u2019m gonna be marked safe. But when I am in my 50s, I will be probably a Real Housewife in some city. So, like a couple years after Ciara.<\/p>\n

MILLER <\/strong>I\u2019m just trying to get back to America.<\/p>\n

PESSOA <\/strong>She\u2019s trying to get home back to Jasper, her cat.\u00a0<\/p>\n

MILLER<\/strong> I obviously have Dancing With the Stars<\/em>. I gotta get in the gym, because that was my goal for Fiji.\u00a0<\/p>\n

PESSOA <\/strong>I would love to see you in, like, Special Forces<\/em>. That would be fun.<\/p>\n

MILLER <\/strong>I\u2019m not doing that.<\/p>\n

PESSOA <\/strong>But I think it\u2019d be very fun. Not for me; I never want to do that, but I\u2019d like to see you.<\/p>\n
