\nSupergirl<\/em> has begun its box office run. Director Craig Gillespie\u2019s DC Studios superhero movie kicked things off with a $7.8 million start from Thursday previews.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Warner Bros.\u2018 title follows last summer\u2019s Superman<\/em> and stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, the cousin of the Man of Steel.<\/p>\n

\n\tAfter a cameo in 2025\u2019s Superman<\/em>, Alcock returns as Supergirl for the second big-screen feature in the DC slate cooked up by bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran. <\/p>\n

\n\tReviews have been mixed, with The Hollywood Reporter\u2019<\/em>s chief film critic David Rooney deeming it an \u201cuninspired slog,\u201d although praising \u201cMilly Alcock\u2019s hard-edged performance making her an appealingly punky protagonist.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAfter starring as Aquaman for the previous DC regime, Jason Momoa joins Alcock as comics bad boy Lobo. Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham round out the cast, while David Corenswet reprises his role as Superman.<\/p>\n

\n\tAlso opening this weekend is Paramount\u2018s Jackass: Best and Last<\/em>, which collected $1.2 million from Thursday previews. Director Jeff Tremaine\u2019s fifth feature in the ribald Johnny Knoxville-led franchise is eyeing $10 million domestically, with the benefit of a budget of just $10 million. <\/p>\n
