In the fest program, she will also present Ryusuke Hamaguchi\u2019s <em>All of a Sudden<\/em> (<em>Soudain<\/em>), for which she won the Palme for best actress at Cannes and for which she learned to act partly in Japanese. <\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cOver the past decade, Virginie Efira has become a defining presence in French-language cinema,\u201d Locarno said on Thursday. \u201cIn 2023, she earned the C\u00e9sar for best actress for Alice Winocour\u2019s <em>Paris Memories<\/em> (<em>Revoir Paris<\/em>) and has repeatedly ventured into bold, formally adventurous work with some of the most distinctive contemporary filmmakers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tAlso at Cannes 2026, Efira starred in Asghar Farhadi\u2019s <em>Parallel Tales<\/em> (<em>Histoires parall\u00e8les<\/em>), another competition title, in which she featured opposite Isabelle Huppert and Vincent Cassel.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/uspropertymoves.com\/?p=2485\">Asa Butterfield, Jonny Lee Miller and Christine Tremarco Join BBC Beatles Drama \u2018Hamburg Days\u2019<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cAlong with popular successes, Efira\u2019s trajectory has been marked by memorable turns with Dutch auteur Paul Verhoeven and <em>Anatomy of a Fall <\/em>(2023) filmmaker Justine Triet,\u201d Locarno said. \u201cIn Verhoeven\u2019s <em>Elle<\/em> (2016), and especially in <em>Benedetta<\/em> (2021), Efira demonstrated a willingness to inhabit provocative, demanding characters whose thorny complexities resist easy categorisation. Her extraordinary performances in Triet\u2019s <em>Victoria<\/em> (2016) and <em>Sibyl<\/em> (2019) likewise confirmed that gift and, along with a handful of other remarkable films of that period, secured her status as one of the rising stars of modern European cinema.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tSaid Giona A.
