It is Eddy Cue, Apple\u2018s senior VP of services. The Silicon Valley powerbroker commanded the stage Monday midday at the Lumi\u00e8re Theatre in the Cannes Palais des Festival in a crowded keynote seminar, and he did so in tandem with a big-name Hollywood player, namely hit producer Jerry Bruckheimer.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/uspropertymoves.com\/?p=2241\">Obamas\u2019 Higher Ground Adds \u2018Expense Account\u2019 Podcast to Slate (Exclusive)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\n\tCue oversees Apple TV, Apple Music and Apple\u2019s film and TV studios, while also serving as senior vp of health. Among Apple\u2019s original hit series are the likes of <em>Pluribus<\/em>, which he has touted as the \u201cbiggest series to date\u201d for the platform and\u00a0<em>Ted Lasso<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tCue and Bruckheimer, on Monday, again teased a sequel to the hit film <em>F1<\/em>. \u201cWe\u2019re going to come back and hopefully make another <em>F1<\/em>,\u201d producer Bruckheimer told the audience, also mentioning the name of <em>F1<\/em> and <em>Top Gun: Maverick<\/em>\u00a0director\u00a0Joseph Kosinski.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tCue later added: \u201cWe\u2019re going to do it again. Hopefully, we\u2019re doing another Formula 1 movie. I think everyone wants to see another one. It was Brad Pitt\u2019s biggest movie of all time. \u2026 It was a great story, it was fun, and you loved it when you were walking out of the theater or watching it at home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tBruckheimer echoed that, sharing with the Cannes Lions crowd about the reactions to the <em>F1<\/em> film: \u201cSo many people come to me and say, \u2018Jerry, when I want to show my kids something, I\u2019ll turn on <em>F1<\/em> because I feel so good after seeing the movie,\u2019 and that\u2019s what we try to do. We try to entertain audiences around the world and tell them a great story, excite them, make them laugh, make them cry, make them feel better when they walk out.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\n\tHe concluded: \u201cThanks to Eddy, we had that opportunity to do it, and we\u2019re so fortunate that he\u2019s a sports fan and an F1 fan. Without him, I don\u2019t think the movie would have gotten made.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tCue and Bruckheimer also mentioned the planned UFO conspiracy thriller to be directed by the latter and directed by Kosinski. \u201cWe\u2019re going to get to work together again, not just on <em>F1<\/em>, but with Joseph Kosinski and yourself on a new project that you\u2019re working on about UAPs,\u201d Cue mentioned on stage.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tBruckheimer shared: \u201cIt\u2019s kind of <em>All the President\u2019s Men<\/em> about what the government has been hiding, what\u2019s been going on with UAPs [or unidentified anomalous phenomena] all these years. We found these two gentlemen who were working for the government and couldn\u2019t quite figure out what was going on, seeing these anomalies, and kept asking a lot of questions, and had a lot of doors shut up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tTheatrical windowing also came up in that context. \u201cWe pitched [<em>F1<\/em>] to nine different exhibitors, studios, and Apple came to us with the most creative way, keeping in theaters, they said, for 45 days,\u201d Bruckheimer shared. \u201cBut as it turned out, they left it there as long as people were buying tickets, which was really a great experience for audiences. And then it went to streaming and was a big success for them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tCue added: \u201cOne of the things that we try to do is not having rules of how things have to be, and so this whole issue of the 45-day window, and whether and for how many shows you put on all [episodes] at once,\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019re going to adjust and do the right thing for that particular moment, and so we shouldn\u2019t make decisions ahead of time.\u201d In the case of F1, it proved popular in cinemas. He described his reaction: \u201cThe 45-day window is up \u2026 and people are still watching [in cinemas]. You have to be flexible, you have to be able to move quickly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tCue on Monday also shared how he approaches Apple\u2019s content strategy. About six and a half years ago, \u201cWe didn\u2019t license any content. We started from scratch,\u201d he emphasized. After all, for him, the content focus is on \u201cthe best, not the most.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tPointing to unlikely show pitches, such as <em>Severance<\/em> or even <em>Ted Lasso<\/em>, Cue said that one key to success for him is: \u201cYou have to believe in the creative team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tMentioning the likes of <em>Severance<\/em> and <em>The Studio<\/em>, Cue offered: \u201cI think we have some of the best television shows.\u201d Lauding the \u201camazing\u201d programming team that Apple built from scratch, led by Jamie Erlicht and Zack Van Amburg, he vowed:\u00a0\u201cWe are just getting started. There\u2019s a lot more to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tSports is one of the areas Cue and his team are betting on. \u201cWe\u2019re excited about sports,\u201d he told the Cannes Lions crowd on Monday. \u201cIt\u2019s still the minority, but it adds to the service.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tApple is even an EGOT winner now, with Cue sharing how the company\u2019s <em>Schmigadoon!<\/em> recently won the best musical Tony. \u201cI never heard of this thing called an EGOT before, which means an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony.
