\n\tIn a surprise booking, ABC\u2018s The View<\/em> has landed an interview with Vice President JD Vance, the highest-profile sitting Republican to appear on the panel show in years.<\/p>\n

\n\tVance will appear on the show next Tuesday, June 16, in a live appearance with co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Alyssa Farah Griffin and Ana Navarro to promote his book Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe appearance comes as The View<\/em> is at the center of a battle between ABC and the Trump administration, with the Federal Communications Commission seeking to review the network\u2019s broadcast licenses, citing an investigation related to Disney\u2019s DEI policies. ABC submitted its licenses \u201cunder protest,\u201d arguong that the move was meant to chill speech.<\/p>\n

\n\tOf course, the FCC is also investigating the network over an appearance from Democratic Senate hopeful James Talarico, citing new rules around equal time for political candidates. The network called that investigation \u201cunprecedented.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nThe View<\/em> argues that it is a bona fide news program, discussing the news of the day and hosting newsmakers for interviews. The appearance from Vance only bolsters that case.<\/p>\n

\n\tPoliticians have largely disappeared from The View<\/em> since that FCC investigation, with only a handful of exceptions. The last Republican of note to appear was former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who has become a vocal critic of President Trump.<\/p>\n

\n\tVance himself has been a frequent topic of conversation on the show, often facing critiques from Goldberg and Behar. He has also been a media critic, taking aim at the show after it hosted Vice President Kamala Harris ahead of the 2024 election.<\/p>\n
