\nAmazon Prime Video has set June 12 for the worldwide streaming premiere of Karuppu<\/em>, the Tamil fantasy-action hit that has become the Indian industry\u2019s top-grossing Tamil release of 2026 so far.<\/p>\n

\n\tDirected by RJ Balaji, Karuppu<\/em> mixes mythology, courtroom drama and mass-action spectacle, with Tamil star Suriya playing the folk guardian deity Vettai Karuppu, who takes human form as a lawyer to take on a corrupt legal system preying on the poor. The cast also includes Trisha Krishnan and Indrans, with music by Sai Abhyankkar.<\/p>\n

\n\tOn Prime Video, the film will stream in its original Tamil plus Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada dubs and a Telugu cut retitled Veerabhadrudu<\/em>, across more than 200 countries and territories. The streaming bow comes about four weeks after the theatrical release and slots into Prime Video\u2019s lineup ahead of Amazon\u2019s Prime Day sales event in India in July.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI am truly humbled by the immense love and appreciation Karuppu<\/em> has received at the box office,\u201d Suriya said in a statement. Prime Video was previously the streaming home for the actor\u2019s acclaimed Jai Bhim<\/em> and Soorarai Pottru<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\n\tIndian grosses aren\u2019t officially audited, but local box office reports put Karuppu<\/em>\u2018s worldwide total above \u20b9300 crore (about $35 million) since its May 15 release \u2014 enough to make it Suriya\u2019s biggest title ever and one of only about 10 Tamil films to cross that mark. His previous career best, the 2013 sequel Singam 2<\/em>, topped out around \u20b9120 crore, according to reports.<\/p>\n

Producer S R Prabhu says the film \u201ccelebrates the spirit of rooted storytelling while delivering the scale and emotion of a truly commercial entertainer,\u201d and predicts it will \u201cenjoy the same blockbuster success on streaming that it enjoyed in theaters.\u201d<\/p>\n
