\nMedia startup\u00a0Run-A-Muck is\u00a0going all in\u00a0on\u00a0short\u00a0stories.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tThe company, co-founded by\u00a0Cond\u00e9\u00a0Nast\u00a0alum Pamela\u00a0Drucker\u00a0Mann,\u00a0is set to\u00a0launch\u00a0short\u00a0stories on\u00a0its\u00a0ad-supported\u00a0culture\u00a0and\u00a0fashion\u00a0Substack,\u00a0Drafting<\/em>,\u00a0according\u00a0to a\u00a0report\u00a0from The Wall\u00a0Street Journal<\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tThe move\u00a0comes along with the company\u2019s\u00a0bet that\u00a0the material could be the\u00a0next\u00a0major source of intellectual property for film, television,\u00a0podcasts\u00a0and other multimedia projects. They\u00a0plan to\u00a0adapt\u00a0successful works across multiple platforms.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cRather than starting with a medium and searching for an audience, we start with the story we want to tell and then determine the format that best serves that story,\u201d\u00a0Drucker\u00a0Mann told WSJ<\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tSeveral notable writers have already signed up to publish on the platform. Among them are Cody Behan \u2014 writer of short story \u201cThe Decorator,\u201d which is set to be adapted for Netflix\u00a0\u2014 and Abbott Elementary<\/em>\u202fwriter and director Brittani Nichols.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tAdaptation is not the entire goal of the push into shorter fiction, however.\u00a0Some stories posted on the platform will\u00a0simply\u00a0remain in that form.\u00a0\u201cNot everything we create is destined to become a television series or feature film,\u201d Drucker Mann added.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\nDrafting<\/em>, Run-A-Muck\u2019s seven-month-old Substack publication,\u00a0attracts more than 50,000 monthly readers. Herm\u00e8s,\u00a0Moncler\u00a0and eBay are\u00a0reportedly among\u00a0the publication\u2019s advertisers \u2014 former Wondery and Google sales executive Kimberly Diaz was hired earlier this year as Run-A-Muck\u2019s head of advertising and brand partnerships. With Drafting\u2019<\/em>s push into short stories, they hope to court a younger audience interested in culture.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tThe first short story to publish on Drafting<\/em> will be\u00a0an 1,800-word story, according to WSJ<\/em>, and is\u00a0based on Showtime\u2019s series\u00a0The L Word<\/em>.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0written by Run-A-Muck co-founder Ilene Chaiken, who co-created the iconic queer series.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tRun-A-Muck also plans to release a podcast this month under the same\u00a0Drafting<\/em>\u00a0banner. The first\u00a0episode will feature Chaiken interviewed by another Run-A-Muck co-founder, The\u00a0L Word <\/em>actor Jennifer Beals.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe company recently raised $10 million in a seed funding round led by Atreides Management, the investment fund founded by SpaceX backer Gavin Baker.\u00a0They\u2019ll\u00a0use the funds to make staff hires, along with audience and intellectual property development. <\/p>\n

\n\tCombined with\u00a0a previous\u00a0$6 million friends-and-family pre-seed round, Run-A-Muck\u2019s valuation currently sits at $80 million.\u00a0<\/p>\n
