Burns was the original host of the popular Nickelodeon show from 1996 until 2002, which shaped a generation of children as it reached audiences in more than 120 countries. He earned a daytime Emmy nomination for his work on the show.
He reprised his role in the 2019 reboot Blue’s Clues & You! as a recurring character and mentor to the franchise’s new host, Josh Dela Cruz. He also wrote and directed several episodes of the series through 2024.
Burns continued the connection with his audience with a viral 25th anniversary message, in which he praised his former viewers for now navigating the world as adults, including contending with student loans, jobs and families.
