The skies over USA Network are getting blue again.

The Versant-owned cable outlet has picked up a medical drama called Diplomatic Immunity, about a doctor assigned to the U.S. embassy in Rome. The series comes from Fox Entertainment Studios and creators and showrunners Matt Corman and Chris Ord (Covert Affairs, Daredevil: Born Again).

The show’s logline reads, “Diplomatic Immunity centers on a young American doctor who is suddenly assigned to the medical office at the U.S. Embassy in Rome. He finds himself encountering challenging medical cases that require him to navigate diplomacy, government personalities and geopolitical situations — all while managing the romantic entanglements set against the thrill of a new life in a new country.”

The order for Diplomatic Immunity comes on the heels of another drama, Anna Pigeon (a co-production with Canada’s Crave), premiering to solid ratings earlier this month. Both shows, along with USA’s John Grisham adaptation The Rainmaker, harken back to USA’s “blue skies” era of the 2000s and 2010s, when the network had a steady lineup of procedurals and light dramas — including Corman and Ord’s espionage series Covert Affairs.

“This is an amazing full-circle moment for us,” Corman and Ord said in a statement. “To be reunited with all the talented folks at USA is an absolute dream, and the brilliant team at Fox are the perfect studio partners for this Roman adventure.”

Diplomatic Immunity also represents a relatively rare sale to a third party by Fox Entertainment Studios. Most of its productions to date have been for its sibling broadcast network and Fox-owned free streamer Tubi.
