Just kidding.

The first photos and a short teaser for the A24-produced series show Linda Cardellini as Pamela Voorhees, the mother of the film series’ big bad, Jason, becoming increasingly desperate after her son drowns (which is, of course, the inciting event for the whole movie franchise). In the teaser (watch it below), a character speculates that “It’s like someone put a curse on this town. It all started when that kid drowned last summer. There’s something in these woods, and all it knows how to do is kill.”

Crystal Lake centers on Cardellini’s Pam, “who has been unable to shake her grief after her young, sickly son Jason tragically drowned in the town lake almost a year before,” the show’s description reads. “When two strangers arrive at Pam’s door digging into her past, a disturbing chain of events is set into motion, leaving the townspeople of Crystal Lake wondering: Just who is Pam Voorhees?”

“She’s only in the [first Friday the 13th film] for the last little bit, but she leaves this impression on the entire franchise. There’s so many movies subsequent that you’d think Jason’s always been in that mask doing what he’s doing. But that wasn’t the case,” Cardellini told The Hollywood Reporter about playing Pam. “It just seemed like something that I had never done. I haven’t seen that many female slashers like that. To dive into who she might have been, I thought, well, that’s something I’ve never done.”
